florida highway patrol.
|
common sense words from: Someone who works behind the red & blue lights.
Hey - could you do us a favor and ask all your readers to PLEASE slow down when coming by us on the bridge? We often have a couple of patrol cars there because one is working and one is watching out for insane drivers. (Not slowing down and moving over when emergency vehicles are by the side of the road is
actually against the law. check
it out.) Help keep us safe, and avoid that nasty ticket! Thanks!

05.09.99: on florida bridge, troopers are also suicide
counselors.
|
05.23.05: Florida West Coast Chapter 30,
2005 Law Enforcement Appreciation Luncheon. Since January 2000 the Florida Highway Patrol has been tasked with manning the Sunshine Skyway Bridge 24 hours a day. The purpose of this round the clock patrol is not only to assist disabled motorists, prevent traffic crashes and investigate suspicious incidents, but also to prevent suicides from atop the third highest bridge expansion in the Continental United States. The troopers assigned to patrol the bridge must deal with emotionally distraught citizens who no longer have any regard for their own life-nor the life of the State Trooper. In 2004, Corporal Richard Kraus, a 24-year veteran of the Florida Highway Patrol and the father of two other Florida State Troopers, added five more names to the list of people he has personally saved from jumping off the top of the Skyway Bridge. Beginning January 1 of 2004 Corporal Kraus negotiated with an intoxicated man who was on top of the cement barrier, a few weeks later he disabled a distraught mans vehicle to keep him from fleeing and was able to keep the man in his car until assistance arrived. In July, Corporal Kraus physically subdued an individual who was standing on top of the barrier and beginning to fall, prevent the man from falling and saving his life. In August, he subdued a suicidal man that was fleeing on a dangerous stretch of highway. And in late December he located an impaired woman at the top of the bridge that was despondent over the holidays and stated that suicide was the only alternative. Corporal Kraus rescued her just moments before she would have plunged into the water. 2004 marked the 61st rescue by Florida Highway Patrol of a person intending to commit suicide on the bridge since the Suicide Prevention patrols were started. Corporal Kraus and the other dedicated troopers have demonstrated professional demeanor, quick thinking and genuine compassion for their fellow man.
(awesome job, corporal kraus and all the fhp
troopers.) |
we appreciate these officers and do not envy their having
to deal with the scum and debris of human villainy.
stay safe, troopers. now, about that ticket you gave us on 'alligator
alley'. is 86 really too fast? come on!
there are 60 excuses and they cycle to the clock, a different
one every second.
send your excuses. |
